How to Use RailRadar
RailRadar helps you track Indian trains in real-time. This guide explains how to use all the main features.
Live Train Map
The Live Train Map shows trains moving across India on an interactive map. You can see over 13,334 trains across 10,102+ stations.
Basic Map Controls
- Zoom In/Out: Use the + and - buttons on the right side, or mouse wheel
- Move Around: Click and drag the map to see different areas
- Fullscreen: Click the fullscreen button for a bigger view
- Refresh: Click the refresh button to get latest train positions
Finding Trains
Use the search box at the top right:
- Type a train number (like 12345) or train name
- Select from the dropdown list
- The map will zoom to that train's location
- A sidebar will open with train details
Train Categories and Colors
Trains are grouped by type and shown in different colors:
- Premium: Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat trains
- Express: Mail and Express trains
- Local: Passenger and local trains
- Freight: Goods trains
Train Information
Click on any train icon to see:
- Train number and name
- Current location between stations
- Next station and expected arrival time
- Overall delay information
- Complete route and schedule
Map Features
- Legend: Click the legend button to filter train types
- Map Provider: Switch between different map styles at bottom left
- Clustering: Trains group together when zoomed out
- Real-time Updates: Train positions update automatically
Live Train Status
The Train Status page gives detailed information about a specific train's journey.
How to Check Train Status
- Enter your train number or name in the search box
- Select the journey date (today is selected by default)
- Click "Track Train" button
- View the detailed status and timeline
Understanding the Status Page
The status page shows:
Train Header
- Train number and name
- Source to destination route
- Train type (Express, Superfast, etc.)
- Overall delay if the train is late
Station Timeline
For each station, you can see:
- Scheduled times: When the train was supposed to arrive/depart
- Actual times: When the train actually arrived/departed
- Platform number: Which platform the train uses
- Distance: How far from the starting station
- Delays: How late the train is at each station
Current Position
- A train icon shows where the train is now
- Status badges show if it's running, at a station, or departed
- You can see the next station and expected arrival time
Status Types
- Running: Train is moving between stations
- At Station: Train has arrived at a station
- Departed: Train has left a station
- Not Yet Started: Train hasn't started its journey today
- Upcoming: Train is scheduled for a future date
- Arrived: Train has completed its journey
Refresh and Updates
- Click the refresh button to get the latest information
- The page shows when data was last updated
- Information updates every few minutes automatically
Trains Between Stations
The Trains Between Stations page helps you find all trains running between any two stations.
How to Search
- Enter your starting station (source)
- Enter your destination station
- Select your travel date
- Click search to see all available trains
Search Tips
- You can type station names or codes (like NDLS for New Delhi)
- The system will suggest stations as you type
- Use major stations for better results
- Try different spellings if you don't find your station
Understanding Results
For each train, you'll see:
- Train number and name
- Departure time from your source station
- Arrival time at your destination
- Journey duration (total travel time)
- Running days (which days of the week it runs)
- Train type (Express, Mail, Passenger, etc.)
- Current status (on time, delayed, etc.)
Additional Features
- Click on any train to see its full route and live status
- Results are sorted by departure time
- You can see intermediate stations and stops
- Distance information is provided
Mobile Usage
RailRadar works well on mobile phones:
- All features work on mobile browsers
- Touch gestures work on the map (pinch to zoom, drag to move)
- Search is optimized for mobile keyboards
- You can add RailRadar to your home screen for quick access
Data Sources
RailRadar gets information from:
- NTES: National Train Enquiry System (official Indian Railways data)
- RailRadar tracking: Our own data collection system
- Multiple providers: We combine data from different sources for accuracy
Update Frequency
- Train positions update every 30-40 seconds on the map
- Status information updates every few minutes
- Schedule data is updated daily
API for Developers

Tips and Best Practices
- Use station codes: NDLS, BCT, HWH are faster than full names
- Refresh regularly: Train status can change quickly
- Check multiple times: Especially during your journey
- Plan extra time: Always account for possible delays
- Verify important information: Double-check with official sources for critical travel
Common Issues
- Train not found: Check the train number spelling or try the train name
- No live data: The train might not be running on the selected date
- Map not loading: Check your internet connection and refresh the page
- Old information: Click refresh to get the latest data
